What makes St.Elmo Missionary Baptist Church so special is the caring people that God has brought to this ministry.
Pastor David Wayne Cavitt Sr. was born to Mack Cavitt and Nannetta Ellis on March 14, 1957, in McKinney, Texas. His childhood years are filled with memories of a loving family, many friends, and plenty of gentle discipline. Going to church has always been a part of his life, and the anointing on his life has been evident throughout his education and career. He married Belinda on June 18, 1983. Praise the Lord for nearly 30+ years of marriage. They have two wonderful children, David Jr, and Jasmin. Pastor Cavitt served 20 years in the Army. He retired as a Major in January 2001. He has a BS in Electrical Engineering and a Master’s in Management. Currently, he is a Certified Math Teacher at Hirschi International Baccalaureate Math-Science High School in Wichita Falls, Texas. He is the Head Junior Varsity Basketball Coach, Assistant Varsity Basketball Coach, and the Head Golf Coach. He organized the CAC, which resulted in the school district hiring its first black head football coach. He is the president of the Community Action Committee and spearheaded a move to have a street renamed for Martin Luther King in Wichita Falls. He was licensed to preach March 22, 1986, and ordained March 24, 1990. He has served as the assistant Pastor for many churches both in states and abroad.
He has served for nearly 20 years as the Pastor of St. Elmo Baptist Church, and he currently serves as the moderator of the New Hope District Association. Throughout his life, the hand of God has guided him to this point in time. His knowledge of the scriptures surpasses many. Pastor Cavitt’s God-given vision of “A Church Moving to Greater Heights” has helped St. Elmo to become a faith-filled family. Under his leadership, lives have changed, people are healed, members are free to operate in their spiritual gifts, and the Holy Spirit directs our worship services.
He has been a role model for many young and adult men. Pastor Cavitt’s unique obedience to God, his faith in the impossible, and his sincere, unconditional love for people are what makes St. Elmo a Lighthouse in the midst of the community. His concern for the lost and hurting souls within the church and surrounding areas is an example to the members of St. Elmo to ‘press towards the mark for the prize of the high calling in Christ Jesus’… Above all he is an anointed man of God.
